American Science and Engineering received a multimillion-dollar order from a Middle East customer for two Z Backscatter Van systems (ZBV). Configured for harsh environments, the ZBV systems will be utilized for counterterrorism applications including securing government facilities and mobile checkpoints.

“AS&E continues to increase its ZBV installed base in the Middle East,” said Anthony Fabiano, President and CEO. “With the ZBV system's exceptional versatility and detection capability, it remains an ideal tool to screen vehicles for explosive threats and contraband. Its varied operating modes provide maximum maneuverability and flexibility for multiple applications, including urban surveillance, checkpoint and high-threat facility security.”

ZBV: Maneuverable, Versatile Mobile X-Ray Detection System

A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E's Z Backscatter Van is a bestselling nonintrusive mobile inspection system on the market. The ZBV is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV system allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspection. The system's unique drive-by capability allows operators to conduct X-ray imaging while driving past suspect vehicles and objects. For personnel safety in dangerous environments, a remote console is available for operating the system in stationary mode from a distance of up to 500 meters.
