Award combines mobile cargo and aviation security systems for comprehensive security solution

OSI Systems, a vertically-integrated provider of specialized electronic products for critical applications, announced that its Security division, Rapiscan Systems, has been awarded an approximately US$10 million contract to provide a combination of its advanced cargo, baggage and aviation security scanning equipment to support the work of Abu Dhabi customs. This latest contract win follows a previously disclosed order from Abu Dhabi customs for Rapiscan Systems technology.

Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is one of the world's most important commercial hubs. Multiple Rapiscan scanning systems will be deployed across customs centers in Abu Dhabi, including airports at Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, a seaport at Mussafah, major post offices, and a number of border customs centers. The systems will help Abu Dhabi customs detect concealed potential security threats, contraband and smuggled items and enforce customs regulations.

The contract calls for Rapiscan Systems to provide an integrated customs screening solution that leverages Rapiscan's broad product range and high-performance transmission X-ray technology. Rapiscan's proprietary transmission X-ray technologies are capable of detecting shielded threats in densely packed cargo containers or baggage while offering operators unsurpassed image quality for rapid detection of potential threats. This latest contract will provide advanced and flexible screening systems to meet Abu Dhabi's mobile inspection, air cargo screening and baggage scanning requirements, all supported by Rapiscan's global service organization.

Mohammad Bin Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Finance Department at Abu Dhabi customs, said: “Currently, we live in an age of growing global commerce and increasingly complex and demanding security and customs enforcement requirements. We selected Rapiscan Systems as our partner because we want to use the latest technologies and we need a solution provider that can offer a comprehensive approach to all our screening requirements.”

He continued, “It is our vision to be the leader in world class customs operations that protect our citizens and sustain prosperity for Abu Dhabi.”

Rapiscan Systems President, Ajay Mehra, said, “This contract is an important milestone for Rapiscan as it combines multiple screening systems for cargo, mobile inspection and aviation security that offer industry leading image quality and throughput, while maintaining the comprehensive threat detection that our product line is known for.”

Mehra continued, “This award also demonstrates why more and more customers are turning to Rapiscan with our comprehensive product line, our innovative technology, our extensive service infrastructure and our focus on providing solutions tailored to customer requirements.”

Rapiscan's contract with Abu Dhabi customs follows a number of recent global contract awards for comprehensive security solutions, including orders with the US Government, the European Union and UK customs.
