Akera Security, a provider of integrated security solutions targeting open-air installations, has partnered with video surveillance specialist Geutebruck and physical security specialist Haverkamp to deliver customized security for photo voltaic power stations in rural Spain.

Recent installations of 150 SunCarrier panels near the Spanish towns of Pozohondo and Valdecaballeros and 240 panels near Alange produce a total of 8,000 kWp. Located in the countryside, the installations need protection and monitoring to prevent theft and vandalism.

In the solution designed by Akera, a digital detection system from Haverkamp has turned wire mesh fences that surround the panels into intrusion detectors. If triggered, Geutebruck dome cameras automatically zero in on the intruder, record pictures locally and simultaneously transmit them to a control center. With no land-based communication options available, both the security and the power generation-related data are forwarded by satellite.
