Over the years, Singapore has established itself as a stellar “Little Dragon” of Asia, with 2014 gross domestic product of US$390 billion and per capita gross national income of US$69,168. But the city-state isn’t exempt from problems facing municipalities across the globe.

“Like most cosmopolitan cities in the world, Singapore is faced with multi-faceted issues of rising population and concerns such as increasing complexity of security threats, crime rate, as well as issues related to housing, traffic, energy utilization, and healthcare,” said Derek Tan, Director of Tyco Integrated Solutions Asia. “As Singapore is a small state with limited resources, sustainable development and sustainable living are key for long-term self-reliance and continued growth.”

As a result, Singapore turns to technology to govern and manage itself more effectively. “In most cases, the solution stacks deployed include data collection, ubiquitous data transmission, ubiquitous security, data translation and exchange, analytics, intelligence, proactive trending, and visualization,” Tan said. “Tyco is well-positioned in these as we have the necessary domains and products/solutions to achieve them.”

Examples of Singapore’s smart city initiatives include the Safe City Test Bed project as well as other government-spearheaded projects. “Tyco is privileged to participate in the recent Smart Nation Platform (SNP) Industry Roundtable (IR) organized by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). Tyco shared with IDA our domain experts’ experience, views, best practices and perspectives during the industry Roundtable, in particular our expertise on sensor and sensor network, video analytics, structured and unstructured data collection, and analytics,” Tan said.
