Surveillance cameras, storage devices, VMS, and other security technologies can go beyond just protecting buildings or premises from intruders – they can also ensure safety on public transportation as well, said Tasman Tai, Sales Engineer at Hong Kong-based Ensec Solutions.
These technologies are seen on more metros and buses amidst calls for increased public transportation safety to prevent accidents, terrorist attacks, and other disasters.
Megapixel cameras deliver high-quality and crystal-clear video for better identification and recognition. “For cameras installation on buses, it is recommended to have at least four cameras: one for the entrance, one for inside the car, one for front view and one for rear view,” Tai said. “This is only for some general cases. The main principle is to cover all internal and external areas and all seats including driver’s seat, so that everyone’s face can be recognized when they get on the bus.”
Better yet, many cameras nowadays have auto-tracking functions. “Tracking cameras could help identify suspects and track their movements by automatically follow suspicious people from camera to camera. This provides immediate reports and notification to the central station if any criminal detection is found, thus shortening the time of response and suspect searching,” he said.
In terms of storage, recently 6TB surveillance hard disks have been launched, enabling a 50 percent increase in storage capacity. This way, users could have longer recording periods without any compromise to image quality. VMS can be installed on any platform, like control center PC workstations or mobile devices. Any control station could access the onboard camera system and have remote live view.
