According to Nathan Walters, Sales Engineer for RhinoCo Technology, a key focus to hone in on for the Australian security industry is HD CCTV. Because of the NBN fiasco where Australia’s IP infrastructure is lagging behind in terms of developments, consumers and integrators have had to look into other forms of HD video surveillance. “With analog TV recently being turned off in Australia, more and more, consumers have had to become familiar with HD. They are beginning to look at this as an essential part of their security solution,” Walters said.
According to Walters, the NBN is definitely a hot topic. The rollout has slowed even further recently with the change of government, “which has put a hold on many forms of innovation and product development, even more so those forecasting ubiquitous broadband in Australia.
Other forms of innovation for the security industry include the rise of cloud. “I think cloud computing will make video surveillance both more accessible and affordable, mostly by removing the need for local storage and monitoring infrastructure,” Walters explained. Another point of note that Walters made was that thanks to numerous companies providing training providing training and insight, there has been an increased uptake. “Now, people not only realize the increased benefits of IP over analog, they see it as future proof technology.”
