The Indian state of Tamil Nadu looks to smart ration cards

The Indian state of Tamil Nadu may soon be rolling out smart cards to replace existing green and white ration cards.

According to a report in The Hindu, the new cards will include an image of the head of the family as well as the number assigned to the family.

The systems integrator for the project will use Census Department data about the card’s beneficiaries. This will include biometric data, as compiled by the Census Directorate for the National Population Register.
