The City Government of Bacolod, Philippines will soon install surveillance cameras in major streets and crime-prone areas as part of the Local Anti-Criminality Action Plan approved by the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) recently.
Chief Insp. Noel Polines, operations head of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), proposed the installation of surveillance cameras to reduce crimes, particularly theft and robbery, mostly the cases on file based on the records.
Polines said Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella assured that he will look for budget to purchase cameras as soon as possible.
The installation of the monitoring equipment is part of the preparations for the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Conference to be hosted by various cities in the Philippines.
The mayor has asked the assistance of the Bacolod police and the Philippine Army to continually secure the city’s peace and order situation.
“The number one consideration of the APEC Organizing Committee is peace and order. We have to show that Bacolod is a safe place and we have the best police security procedure,” Puentevella said.
Surveillance cameras will be installed on Burgos Street, Circumferential Road, Libertad-Araneta Streets, La Salle Avenue, and Araneta Street in front of City Hall.
The mayor also plans to purchase 10 additional patrol cars and new traffic lights since most of the city’s traffic lights are no longer functioning, especially those in the downtown area.
Uniformed personnel will also be deployed during night time to conduct police visibility patrol and checkpoint operations.
