The combined efforts of CHOICE Humanitarian and Vivint, a provider of home security and automation, have benefited the lives of thousands of villagers in rural Nepal.

For more than 30 years, CHOICE has been identifying vital needs in rural areas of the world. In November, over 200 Vivint volunteers gave of their time and personal money and traveled to Nepal to participate in three different service projects.

Volunteers were divided into 3 groups and completed vital projects in the Ramgha, Sundabazar, and Ramkot villages. Volunteers painted schools, constructed classrooms, built a dental clinic, renovated a schoolhouse, and constructed a water system.

Despite the nearly two days of travel to arrive in Nepal, illnesses battled by many volunteers, and extremely hard physical labor, everyone had a great attitude and kept working. To construct the water system volunteers used pickaxes and shovels to dig a tank and trenches down a mountainside. Volunteers also mixed and carried the cement by hand to create the foundation. “CHOICE was amazed and grateful for the work ethic and strength of all the volunteers,” said Wade Alexander, director of expeditions.

When the projects were complete, Vivint volunteers were grateful to have had the opportunity to put their personal lives on pause and serve others. According to Alexander, the scope of Vivint’s service is likely to be felt for a very long time.
