Las Pinas city is now “on cam” round the clock. A command center for Las Pinas’ $ 450 thousand worth security surveillanc system is now operating 24/7, with personnel from the local traffic bureau monitoring 23 surveillance cameras on the city’s major thoroughfares.

“Constant monitoring through these cameras is vital to avert crime incidents and for quick response to emergencies and traffic situations,” Las Pinas Mayor Vergel Aguilar said in a statement. The surveillance cameras and the command center based at City Hall started operating in November 2013.

In earlier interview, Councilor Carlo Aguilar said the city council originally allocated $563 thousand for the project but was able to negotiate for a discounted price of around $ 450 thousand. The cameras can be remotely controlled and have zooming capabilities, according to the councilor.
