Honda shifts into higher gear in India with 2nd auto plant

Honda Cars India started production at its 2nd plant that would double its production capacity as the Japanese automaker's local unit targets annual sales of 300 thousand units by 2016-17. Honda has invested $567 million for the plant at Tapukara in Rajasthan. When fully operational, the facility will have a capacity to manufacture 120 thousand cars a year, taking Honda Cars India's total capacity to 240 thousand units. The plant would generate employment for more than 3,200 people.

Honda India has another car manufacturing facility at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh. It is also looking at the possibility of building a 3rd plant.
