Japanese beverage company Calpis (Asahi Group) has returned to Thailand, spending 1.5 million on a factory with the Osotspa Group, the country’s oldest consumer product conglomerate.

Both parties have formed a joint venture, Calpis Osotspa, with 2.2 million in registered capital. Calpis holds a 60% stake in the venture and Osotspa the remainder.

Yoshikazu Nammoto, president of Calpis Osotspa, said its production plant is under construction in Ayutthaya province and due to start production in June.

The factory has a production capacity of 140 million bottles per year, mostly for the domestic market.
