Cloud services usage in Korea is extremely low due to lack of a proper privacy protection policy.
According to Korea Information Society Development Institute, surveyed 10,464 people from 4386 households, only 7.6 percent of the participants said that they used cloud services for the year 2013.
Though an increase of 5% from 2012, the report noted that annual growth of cloud services in Korea was markedly slower than other countries.
It cited the lack of proper privacy protection and demand for back-ups. Overall lack of high-memory activity was also the cause.
Low Internet skill was another reason, it said, as only 58.6% answered that they knew how to open files sent via email.
By age, those in their 20s used cloud services the most with 20.8%. Of those in their 50s and 60s, only 1.3 and .5% used the cloud, respectively.
“The cloud seems to be used very marginally, only by those in their 20s and certain profession,” the reported noted.
However, it said that cloud was still an emerging industry with high potential.
