A tender by the Singapore Sports Council for hotels to house athletes from around the region during the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore has received 45 bids.

The bids were mainly from 4- and 5-star hotels situated in the city, and were submitted via the Government Electronic Business portal.

Among them were Pan Pacific, Fairmont and Ritz Carlton. The average number of rooms offered by the 45 hotels is between 30 and 50.

Singapore Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee announced earlier that it is considering a "Village in the City" concept instead of a traditional Games Village.

"On the sporting event day, they will need to be moved to the sporting facilities like the stadium. This can actually pose some logistics challenges as well as traffic congestions, so the authorities will have to look into this," said Nicholas Mak, executive director at SLP International Property Consultants.

Some 15,000 volunteers will be roped in for the Games, with organizers planning a recruitment drive in February 2014 at the Gardens by the Bay.
