Panasonic Malaysia has a rather strong foothold in the SMB sector, with nearly 52% of the market share in 2012 and the system and communication division bringing in US$37.7 million (MR 120 million) in sales. The 20% hike in oil/gas prices has impacted cost of goods sold significantly, and propelled us to look into mid- to high-end customers and security more.

We work with partners via a two-pronged approach; for larger, complex projects, we rely on Panasonic Systems Engineering; for the rest, we have business partners such as retail dealers and distributors. Our target verticals at the moment are residential, commercial, financial and public safety/transportation.

The security hardware business yielded a roughly $5 million turnover in 2012, and we are looking at 110% growth this year as security is never sidelined.
