To continue its substantial growth in the industry, VIVOTEK not only invested in AI, but also in cybersecurity for its users. Cybersecurity has remained a hot topic in the physical security industry for the past two years. However, to really tackle this, companies cannot stay passive or take action only when a major backdoor cyberattack occurs.

VIVOTEK is one of the few physical security companies that has implemented comprehensive cybersecurity protocols, from its product design to aftersales service. Owen Chen, Chairman of VIVOTEK, mentioned, “In the past, we all thought the main problem came from backdoors. But in reality, cyber threats can happen anytime, anywhere. So we have partnered with Trend Micro to offer our customers a high level of security and robust network surveillance."

With this alliance with Trend Micro, the company is now able to provide a multi-layer protection solution for surveillance cameras. Chen said, “When the system detects brute-force attacks based on a defined number of failed login attempts, it automatically activates a defense mechanism to block that IP address and prevent further attacks."

Chen continued, “If an unknown attack occurs, the system will remotely patch all the data and transfer this to the anti-intrusion team for analysis, enabling them to solve it in a timely manner and effectively decrease the spread of internal infections. This lets users get back to work safely and quickly."

Complete protection

However, VIVOTEK didn’t just stop there. “We built cybersecurity assurance into the lifecycle of our products, covering the whole process of development, verification, manufacturing, delivery and service. We follow the best industry practices for building security solutions,” said Chen. “In the product design phase, we work with third parties to perform security code reviews and leveraged the Coverity software to ensure software reliability and code quality. In the last phase, we conduct penetration tests by Devcore and Onward Security, the third-party security advisors, for review and recommendations.”

In addition to this, VIVOTEK formed a Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) that will help customers and sales partners quickly respond to cyberattacks and carry out standard protocols. Chen said, “After VIVOTEK receives a report on any vulnerabilities or security concerns, the PSIRT team will acknowledge and reply within 72 hours. If the vulnerability is confirmed, VIVOTEK will publish the solution."

Differentiation

According to Chen, cybersecurity will become a crucial factor that can help VIVOTEK earn its partners and users’ trust, differentiating it from other competitors in the market.

It has become a prerequisite for companies to offer users clear guidance and a solution whenever there is a cyberattack. VIVOTEK's latest efforts in cybersecurity can provide the industry a good example of how one can move from reaction to prevention.
