Ayla Networks and Qorvo to jointly develop ZigBee-based IoT gateways

IoT platform provider Ayla Networks and RF solution provider Qorvo have joined force to develop cellular-based IoT gateways for telecom service providers and mobile operators that offer home automation services.

Qorvo showcased an Ayla-powered Smart Home Gateway solution at the IBC 2017 show, on September 15-19, at the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Congress Centre.

The gateway is powered by the Qorvo GP712 System-on-Chip, which provides concurrent support for Thread and ZigBee on different RF channels. This enables designers to use a single transceiver on their gateway products to simultaneously serve ZigBee 3.0, Thread, ZigBee RF4CE and ZigBee Green Power in a single radio.

These smart home bundles can be used in a variety of applications, such as smart home access (IoT gateway plus sensors such as smart locks), smart home security (IoT gateway plus window and door sensors, smoke/carbon dioxide sensors, security cameras and other sensors) and smart elderly care (IoT gateway plus motion detector, temperature, LED lighting, smart plug and other sensors)

The Smart Home Gateway solution will be available globally, beginning in China and South Africa.
