DataSoft, an IT company based in Bangladesh, has signed a partnership with Japanese company Smart Life to build 10,000 smart homes in Tokyo.

These next-generation homes will feature IoT solutions provided by Datasoft, including power usage control, gas leakage prevention, minimizing water use, room temperature control and home security.

The smart homes built under this partnership aim to bring energy cost down and consume power more efficiently. Since it’s more cost-efficient, the rent of these apartments will go down by 18% to 20%, according to DataSoft.

Tokyo will see a couple of changes in the coming years for hosting 2020 Olympics. A great number of people will flood into the capital city; therefore, cheaper and modern apartments might have more appeal.

This partnership is significant for Bangladesh as well. The city government has a vision of “digital Bangladesh” and now the collaboration makes it real. “Bangladesh missed out the previous industrial revolutions. But in the era of digital revolution, Bangladesh will play a role,” said Mustafa Jabbar, president of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services.

DataSoft, founded in 1998, opened an office in Japan in May 2016. Six months later, the company created an IoT lab in the Japanese capital with Columbia University from the United States.

The project is expected to bring DataSoft US$8,000 from each apartment and a service fee of US$10 to US$15 from every unit every month after the project is finished.

Founded in 2013, Smart Life is a company that promotes the concept of energy-saving households in Japan.
