Holding more than ten years of local experience in Vietnam, Honeywell has been part of the growing property market and megatrend of smart home for high-end residential buildings. The company sees ahead of the trend, grabbing unlimited opportunities in professional developer projects whilst innovating human-centered solutions to win end-users’ hearts. Mai Trang Thanh, President of Honeywell Indochina, is optimistic in Vietnamese smart home market. “Real estate investors and home owners are keen on smart home implementations, thereby smart home will become the standard of a modern house in IoT era,” she shared with SMAhome.

1. What is the role of Honeywell in smart home market of Vietnam?

Honeywell is a Fortune 100 software-industrial company that delivers industry specific solutions including aerospace and automotive products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes, and industry; and performance materials globally.

We set up operations in Vietnam since 2005, currently having offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, as well as Yangon in Myanmar. Our Building Technologies strategic business group, formerly part of Automation & Control Solutions, has built an extensive network with local partners and distribution channels in Vietnam for over a decade. But it was until recent years that we officially joined smart home market here with Honeywell’s Smart Connected Home products and solutions.

2. Which type of projects does Honeywell Vietnam majorly work with? Where these projects are mostly located?

Mai Trang Thanh, President of
Honeywell Indochina

Currently our primary focus is on property management projects. We are working with complexes to provide integrated solutions that help operators monitor and ensure security for their properties.

We are also providing Honeywell smart home products and solutions that make lives more comfortable, secure, connected and informed. Honeywell technology has been installed in over 150 million homes globally, and we expect to deliver such technologies to our customers in Vietnam through cooperations with local partners.

Our partners and customers are mostly locating in Hanoi and HCMC, with a slight majority located in HCMC. We are planning to expand distribution channels in other cities to meet the increasing housing demand of the rising middle class.

3. Which type of local partners do you mainly target?

Entering Vietnamese smart home market with various types of building projects, Honeywell is in close collaborations with real estate investors, developers, constructors, and architects who are interested in US premium smart solutions and products for their projects.

We also target individual customers in high-class residentials. Currently our products are provided to homeowners and end-users through real estate investors, project developers and consultants. As a result, Honeywell is developing our distributors and system integrator network in Vietnam to facilitate customer’s purchasing and tailor solutions as per their needs.

4. In your abundant experience, what are the major demand of smart home solutions in Vietnam?

From our experience, home automation control and security monitoring are very popular. A significant part of our customers are modern and young people, they are most interested in automation and control solutions. For example, a smartphone app to control Wi-Fi-enabled thermostats, a home gateway that controls multiple household items including curtains, lights, and air conditioners with just a few clicks of the button.

Security does really matters, especially for villa and house owners. With connected home solutions, the homeowners are able to monitor and take control of their connected systems securely no matter where they are. From a PC or mobile phone, they are kept notified of any event occurring in their homes.

In my opinion, every Vietnamese family needs to feel safe and comfortable, while being able to enjoy the time with their loved family members and precious moment. As modern technologies develop, homeowners can easily stay connected and in control of home comfort, security, and air quality maintenance.

5. What’s your perspectives on current Vietnamese smart home market and the potential in the coming future?

I am absolutely optimistic about the great opportunities and upcoming developments in Vietnam. The world is moving into an era where seemingly everything around us is connected, making smart home and building an inevitable trend in residential industry.

As our smart connected solutions have received positive feedback from both partners and individual customers, we believe smart home market will continue booming in upcoming years, thanks to the wave of Industrial Revolution 4.0 in Vietnam, accompanied by the Internet of Things. More real estate investors and home owners are keen on smart home implementations, thereby smart home will become the standard of a modern house in IoT era.

Matching macro trends in Vietnam that include sustainable urbanization, clean energy, and a rising middle class, home and building solution providers like Honeywell are provided with unprecedented opportunities for delivering innovative connected products, services, and solutions in Vietnam that can help address the nation’s challenges intelligently.

6. Please share with us your deployment plan in 2018 & 2019.

In the upcoming two years, Honeywell will further expand our sales and distribution channels along with system integration to meet the increasing demands of Vietnamese customers.

On an overall view, we want to move from technology-centered innovation to human-centered innovation. By applying user-focused design principles to our business and industrial products, following Honeywell User Experience strategy, we can differentiate Honeywell’s products from competitors and improve customer satisfaction and brand loyalty, while at the same time enabling better pricing.
