Yale smart locks integrate with August Home’s software

Two smart lock companies, Yale and August Home, have announced their first integration after Assa Abloy bought August Home in 2017.
 
Yale introduced a connected module that allows Yale devices to be controlled by August’s mobile app.

Features include Auto Unlock, which lets users open the door with a connected mobile device. Locking and unlocking can be done from the mobile app. Integration with smart home platform Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit is also enabled.
 
The single module costs US$129. Yale lock owners only need to clip the module on the back of their existing Yale smart locks.
 
Yale also released a Connected by August Kit that includes an August module, DoorSense sensor and August Connect Wi-Fi Bridge. The DoorSense sensor can be installed by the door, so that users can know from the mobile app their smart lock’s status and if the door is open or closed.
 
The new product line is called Connected by August, which includes the Yale Assure Lock SL (US$299) and Assure Lock Touchscreen (US$279), both with the Connected by August Kit alongside the smart lock itself.
 
There may be some inconvenience. After Yale lock owners install the August module, they cannot use the Zigbee or Z-Wave module offered by Yale and will lose associated home automation opportunities.
 
Yale and August plan to discontinue the Yale app and bring all Yale devices onto the August software platform sometime in the future, according to media sources.
