Guidepost Solutions adds investigator to its investigations practice

John A. Curry joined the New York office of Guidepost Solutions, a global leader in compliance, monitoring and investigations, as a managing director in its Monitoring and Investigations practice. Curry, who most recently served as the Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Commissioner for Legal Affairs at the New York City Business Integrity Commission (BIC), is a seasoned investigative attorney.

"John has a distinguished track record conducting and overseeing investigations and monitoring regulated entities,” stated Guidepost Solutions President of Investigations and Monitoring, Thomas A. McShane. “His insight and significant experience will be particularly valuable to our clients.”

During his tenure at BIC, Curry designed and oversaw compliance monitorships; managed and conducted complex investigations; and drafted advisory opinions. He worked closely with city, state and federal regulatory and law enforcement agencies investigating public wholesale markets as well as companies and principals involved in the trade waste industry. He also served as acting General Counsel and Director of BIC’s Background Investigations Unit.

Prior to joining BIC, Curry was the regional counsel for the Recording Industry Association of America where he developed enforcement strategies to combat the manufacturing, distribution and sale of counterfeit and piratical music in multiple states; trained law enforcement personnel on how to identify counterfeit/piratical music and conduct successful criminal investigations; and assisted prosecutors on piracy cases. Curry also served as an Administrative Law Judge for the New York State Liquor Authority. He began his career serving 20 years with the New York Police Department and retired as Executive Officer of its Legal Bureau’s Civil Enforcement Unit.

Curry graduated from New York Law School with a Juris Doctor degree. He has a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Curry is certified as an Inspector General Investigator, Economic Crime Investigations and Analysis Expert, and Weapons of Mass Destruction General Instructor. He serves as second vice president of the Association of Inspectors General New York/New Jersey Chapter and has top secret level clearance from the FBI.
