When you need to build a massive sports arena in record time, things get hectic on site. That’s why ASSA ABLOY prepared all the hardware for US Bank Stadium in the factory in advance, for direct installation on arrival.

Customer

Measuring 1.5 million square feet and with seating for 65,000, the new USD 1.1 billion U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis will provide fans with the ultimate game experience. The stadium was uniquely designed to protect visitors from the weather, while maintaining a connection with the outdoors. Its most striking feature is a transparent roof that covers 60 percent of the facility.

Challenge

The project was completed in just 30 months – six weeks ahead of schedule. (Target Field baseball park – where the Minnesota Twins play – was a project half the size, yet it took longer to complete.) With 1,500 workers on site at the peak of construction, it was vital that ASSA ABLOY make its solutions turnkey.

Solution

A key success factor was the pre-assembly of hardware on more than 1,000 hollow metal doors and frame openings at one of ASSA ABLOY’s factories. ASSA ABLOY’s competence to bring finished products to the site reduced the potential for damage or lost goods around the busy, chaotic construction site, where the delivery of different component hardware would not have been beneficial.

Pre-assembly of the components allowed the team to identify any missing products so they could resolve issues before arriving at the site. The installation was almost flawless, which was impressive give the size of the project.
