OmniVision Technologies, a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions announced the OV2718, a high definition (HD) CameraChip sensor designed for high-performance security cameras.

The 1/3-inch OV2718 leverages OmniVision's OmniBSI-2 pixel architecture to deliver best-in-class low-light sensitivity, high dynamic range (HDR), and 1080p HD video, making it well-suited for mainstream security and surveillance systems.

"Industry analysts predict a strong demand for image sensors with high quality 1080p HD video recording capabilities in mainstream commercial security systems. The OV2718, a sensor that offers such capabilities in a standard 1/3-inch format widely adopted in the industry, is designed to directly address that demand," said Chris Yiu, Senior Strategic Marketing Manager at OmniVision. "The OV2718 delivers best-in-class low-light sensitivity for 1080p security cameras. This sensitivity, paired with OmniVision's HDR technology, enables excellent scene reproduction even in challenging lighting conditions, which is essential for surveillance cameras."

Built on the OmniBSI-2 pixel architecture, the 1/3-inch OV2718 can record 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second (FPS) in HDR mode. The OV2718 leverages OmniVision's in-pixel HDR technology to capture crisp, clear images and video when recording in high- and low-light environments, a critical benefit for security and surveillance cameras.

The OV2718 is expected to enter volume production by the end of 2015.
