Following a successful trial period, as of today, users will be able to use their smart mobile devices to unlock doors and open gates from a distance, thanks to the release of HID Mobile Access from ASSA ABLOY Group company HID Global.

The HID Mobile Access solution, powered by ASSA ABLOY's Seos technology, merges security and convenience by turning Bluetooth-Smart and near-field communication-enabled smartphones and other smart mobile devices into trusted, easy-to-use credentials that can replace keys and smart cards.

“Twist and go” gesture technology is featured in HID Mobile Access, enabling users to unlock doors and open gates from a distance by merely rotating or “twisting” their device as they approach a mobile-enabled reader.

Selva Selvaratnam, senior vice president and CTO at HID Global, says that HID Mobile Access, which supports both iPhone and Android devices and has been successfully piloted at major universities and businesses in the US, signals the start of a new era in security solutions.

“HID Mobile Access opens a new chapter in the creation and management of digital identities for mobile access by making it possible to open doors using the broadest range of smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices without the need for additional sleeves or other accessories,” he says.

“The solution offers more secure, convenient and flexible access control, along with a best-in-class mobile ID delivery process that is as easy and straightforward as downloading music.”
