NEC is providing a biometric-gate system to be tested in a “nonstop gate” trial at the Narita International Airport in Japan for two months, starting March 18. The trial aims to eliminate the need for visitors to present IDs to security personnel for identification prior to entering the facility, maintain high levels of security, and ensure travelers a smooth journey through the airport. Currently, visitors at the airport are required to provide identification to security personnel prior to entering the facility. As the trial proceeds, the administrators will optimize the placement and angle of cameras, as well as lighting conditions in order to effectively utilize the system. The purposes of this system include the maintenance of airport security and streamlining airport entry procedures.
