The Gas Company, a gas provider to consumers, businesses and government bodies throughout Hawaii, deployed Bosch's dual-sensor, dual-lens, IP IR cameras with VCA for critical 24/7 surveillance applications. The company supplies synthetic natural gas through a 1,609-kilometer (1,000 miles) pipeline network to 28,000 customers. Installer Keener Technologies was responsible for the project.

The Gas Company required surveillance for its sites to avoid vandalism, trespassing and other unauthorized activity. The video had to be of high quality so the authorities could conduct postevent investigations. Furthermore, the cameras needed to contain recognition level surveillance to determine between malicious and innocent activities. The company wanted to avoid installments of expensive lighting that could increase light pollution in the area.

The easy-to-install and cost-effective camera (all-in-one illuminator, D/N camera and outdoor housing) is capable of delivering usable video at nighttime from 45 meters (150 feet) away, enabling the company to reduce the number of cameras required. A high signal-to-noise ratio also means nocturnal VCA is possible. The IR illuminator is covert to the human eye, causing no light pollution. “The camera provides 24/7 live streaming video from perimeter areas so that the command center can take immediate action against any security breaches,” said Tom Keener, President of Keener. Video quality has also helped convict criminals, reducing the overall crime rate at the site.
