Fujitsu Frontech North America , a provider in innovative technology and front-end solutions, announced that it has installed the Palm Physical Access Control system at BlueVault in San Diego, CA. In addition to its other high-end retail elements, BlueVault provides maximum-security storage units for the public's most valuable or important items. The access system is a secure, contactless, biometric access control solution that positively authenticates the identity of an individual. The solution was chosen by BlueVault because of its fast, non-intrusive, spoof-proof technology that allows BlueVault customers to access their valuables through a quick, highly secure palm scan.

The Fujitsu palm vein sensors use a near-infrared light to capture a user's palm vein pattern, generating a unique biometric template that is matched against the palm vein patterns of pre-registered users. Unlike other readers, the biometric device does not come into contact with the skin, making it extremely hygienic, non-intrusive and unrestricted by external factors such as skin types and conditions. Registration for the system takes less than one minute and authentication takes less than one second.
