The Chinese security network camera market experienced over 200 percent growth in 2010 according to a new updated report from IMS Research titled “The China Market for CCTV and Video Surveillance Equipment – 2011 Edition”.
The China network camera market was estimated to be worth over $150 million in 2010 and is forecast to grow by over 30 percent year-on-year to 2015. The major driver for market growth in China is the emerging requirement for high definition of video images. A good example of this is the Beijing police ordering all supermarkets and shopping malls to install high-definition security cameras. While most current generation analogue cameras have a bottle-neck on resolution at 600 TVL, megapixel network cameras can easily achieve 750TVL and above.
“The China network camera market is rapidly moving to megapixel, especially for the products which are HD (High Definition) compliant “comments Senior Analyst at IMS Research, Bo Zhang. “Most of the major network camera vendors will gradually introduce more megapixel cameras and phase out standard resolution types”, continues Bo Zhang. “According to our latest published research, by 2015 more than 90 percent of revenue will be from megapixel cameras.”
