Honeywell announced it has been awarded a US$61 million contract to complete modernization of the Electronic Schedule Dissemination (ESD) system for the Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN) by 2011.

The three-year ESD 3.0 contract is a large single development program awarded under the Satellite Control Network Contract—a contract that its subsidiary, Honeywell Technology Solutions Inc (HTSI), has served as prime contractor for more than seven years.

Honeywell will deploy ESD 3.0 to more than 44 sites worldwide where the system will orchestrate the operations linking 15 global ground antennas, as well as diverse space operations centers, with more than 140 on-orbit US Government satellites and their data.

“The current system relies on an obsolete software/hardware platform that requires centralized intake with centralized control for AFSCN users. Our software will permit new user self-service capabilities that break the paradigm of a centralized execution system, which allows users to independently modify a very complex schedule in a synchronized fashion,” said Vince Trim, President of HTSI.

ESD 3.0's distributed, service-oriented, Windows/Oracle based architecture will significantly modernize DOS-based scheduling system. Deployment of ESD 3.0 will provide the architectural underpinnings for future growth and enhanced support of the expanding AFSCN mission satellite constellations.
