The strength of surveillance systems is no longer measured just in terms of hardware features. With AI-powered algorithms becoming an integral part of security, customers realize that surveillance cameras can play a more proactive role in detecting threats and responding to them.
While this has been an excellent development for the customer and the industry, it has also prompted a liberal use of the term AI without specifics. To be fair, AI is part of many applications beyond security. When using the word in the context of security, it is crucial to specify how they add value to existing solutions. More importantly, this value should significantly improve the performance quality of the entire system.
This is precisely what Dahua Technology has done with its recent launch of advanced features in WizSense, a wide range of AI products and solutions including IP cameras, PTZ cameras, NVR and XVR. Adopting an independent AI chip and deep learning algorithm, WizSense is focused on human and vehicle detection with extended AI capabilities for image, video and search functions, among other features.

Raising the bar with new AI features

Over the years, Dahua has strengthened its reputation as a leading global surveillance and security solution provider. The company has worked closely with its customers and the integration community to understand the ever-changing requirements in various verticals and applications. Eaden Xie, IP Camera Product Director at Dahua Technology, points out that attention to details was one of the factors that led to the development of high-end WizSense features.
“There are two main drivers behind WizSense's product iteration,” Xie explained. “The first was the need to improve human and vehicle detection while eliminating animals and other irrelevant elements, along with advancing AI functions. The second was the constant increase in customer demand for new functions and a better user experience.”
Over the years, camera resolutions have increased from 720p to 4K and 8K ultra clear as technology evolved and users have demanded better quality. As AI has made cameras more dynamic, this also drove solution providers to improve accuracy, features, operability and ease of use.
With careful consideration of market requirements, Dahua brings two main upgrades to the WizSense. The first is the Quick Pick feature, a search technology based on color extraction and comparison. “Quick Pick will significantly narrow the search results to show the target footage of interest,” explained Xie. “It is ideal for verticals like retail or malls to quickly find specific human or vehicle targets from surveillance footage, or find traces of suspicious characters during or after events.”
The second new feature is Dahua’s AI scene self- adaption (SSA). The intelligent image technology leverages powerful deep learning algorithms to evaluate specific scenes (rain and fog, backlight, Anti-flicker Scene Adaption, etc.) and automatically adjust exposure parameters to ensure high image quality. For outdoor applications, AI SSA automatically compensates for changing weather and lighting conditions, saving users both time and labor costs.

What makes WizSense unique?

The key strength of WizSense lies in its identification and verification system that can efficiently eliminate false alarms and provide instant alerts for any events that require the operator’s attention.
“As we all know, false alarms for surveillance systems are very annoying and lead to labor costs,” Xie said. “So AI cameras are being trained to focus on humans and vehicle detection, which are often the real threats. This has pushed us to continue to advance Dahua’s smart motion detection (SMD) applications, as user demands are becoming more and more diverse, with higher requirements for a wide range of scenarios.”
To achieve this, Dahua applied their latest deep learning algorithm to SMD 4.0, reducing the incidence of false alarms set off by animals or other unwanted elements and ensuring that only valid threats are being reported. The newly introduced Quick Pick feature enables users to integrate Dahua’s IP camera with AI NVR for human/vehicle search based on color extraction and comparison AI algorithms.
“Quick Pick significantly saves labor costs and increases the accuracy of results compared to manual checking of SMD events,” Xie continued. “For example, when seeing a suspicious object on the monitoring screen, you can quickly retrieve the video on the same day through Quick Pick and immediately locate it in the video feed. This greatly reduces the search steps and saves time.”

Adding value by reducing cost and effort

With the addition of new features, Dahua has gone the extra mile to provide more value to its customers. Users can now rapidly review and search through volumes of SMD video footage for specific human or vehicle targets, with AI SSA and Quick Pick technology prioritizing the best possible matches and facilitating evidence sharing. This also creates yet another opportunity for systems integrators to offer a comprehensive security solution with Dahua’s WizSense IP cameras and AI NVRs that can transform video into actionable intelligence while saving users’ time and money.
