Security China 2014 wrapped up on Oct. 31, after four-days of non-stop hustle and bustle with many of the security industry's biggest and brightest showcasing their latest technology. Spread across eight halls at the China International Exhibition Center, China's security industry displayed why it is a force to be reckoned with.

With most of the industry's heavyweights present, localization was stressed as the key factor in surviving in the deeply competitive China security market.

Localization in the form of local manufacturing, local marketing and sales teams, and local R&D set ups was noted by many multinational companies as crucial to succeeding in the China market. With better understanding of local needs and requirements, companies are better able to service the market which has a reputation of wanting customized/tailor-made products. Instead of changing and customizing products already in production, many companies have developed product lines especially for the China market, based on local requirements to fulfill government regulations.

While localization in any country is important, particularly in China, where the government does its best to protect its local manufacturers, understanding the local culture and regulations can either make or break the success of a foreign company in China.
