Dominant carrier Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) is spending $67 million to put up 2 more data center facilities that would more than double the capacity of its data center business.

Eric Alberto, PLDT executive vice president and head of Enterprise and International and Carrier Business, said in an interview that PLDT Alpha Enterprise is scheduled to open a data center in Makati City this year and another one in Paranaque City early next year.

He pointed out that the new data centers would augment the operations of the three existing Vitro Data Centers in Pasig, Subic, and Mandaue City in Cebu with a capacity of more than 2,000 racks.

Alberto said the data center facilities deliver redundant and high-capacity connectivity around the globe, with a robust telecommunications infrastructure powered by PLDT.

He added that the facilities employ top of the line systems for power supply, security, cooling, fire protection, and monitoring to ensure the smooth operation of the data center as well as the servers housed in it.

PLDT president Napoleon Nazareno stressed the need to expand the company's data center business that has grown by more than 60%.

The data center facilities guarantee business operations at all times with highly robust, secure and scalable infrastructure to the unparalleled connectivity and 24x7 technical support capabilities.
