TeleEye Group announced on Oct 31 the establishment of its 10th overseas office, TeleEye Malaysia. The group aims to bring state-of-the-art total video surveillance solutions to Malaysia and to provide local customer support with this new establishment.

"Malaysia is transforming itself from an efficiency-driven economy to an innovation-driven economy," said CEO Cliff Chan. "To respond to this dynamic transformation, TeleEye will bring the most advanced technologies to the local banking, services and public sectors." Training courses, design
consultations, maintenance and spare parts will be provided at this facility, to help capture at least 5% of the video surveillance market in Malaysia in two years' time.

"We are confident in [growing] this market, which is estimated to be worth US$50 million within the next two years," said K.Y. Yong, GM of TeleEye Malaysia. At the ceremony, well-known local crime buster Yang Berbahagia Dato' Othman Talib said that he believes surveillance cameras play an important role in helping the police improve evidence-gathering efforts and bolster public trust. He is proposing to local governments to have more police vehicles fitted with surveillance systems.
