Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault-Nissan, said that the two automakers will continue to gain strong positions in emerging, fast-growth markets. Speaking to The Wall Street Journal following the announcement of Nissan's proposed assembly facility in Myanmar ("Myanmar: 23 September 2013: Nissan announces plans for Myanmar production by 2015"), the senior executive said that the alliance is now looking outside the BRIC markets.

He told the newspaper, "New emerging markets like Indonesia, Mexico, Myanmar and Africa allow you to spread your risks… When one is slowing down or has a problem it will be compensated by others. The overall picture on emerging markets justifies every single investment we've made, and we're going to have to do more."

As well as Nissan deciding to tap the Myanmar market via local assembly, which is expected to prove to be a cost-effective alternative to the second-hand Japanese imports that currently dominate the market, the two automakers are increasing activities in Indonesia.
