Arlo Smart, an advanced subscription service for Arlo cameras, has been rolled out in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
Just like the Nest Aware to Nest devices, Arlo Smart gives additional features to Arlo security cameras, including person detection and cloud activity zones. These features help to sharpen the camera’s security alerts.
Security camera owners receive many notifications every day; however, there is not much meaningful information. The motion sensors may be triggered by a drive-by car, a walk-by dog or a wind-blown bush.
With the detection feature of Arlo Smart, the camera can identify pets, vehicles, packages and people. Users can then filter out notifications of pets and vehicles and only ask the app to alert activities triggered by packages and people. With the cloud activity zone, they can designate a specific area where the filtering is carried out.
Once a notification is sent to the user’s phone, he can see the image, video and the name of object that triggers the notification on the phone’s lock screen. This way the notification provides the user important messages directly, instead of having them to open the app first.
Arlo Smart also gives users longer cloud storage days (from 30 to 60 days), while the basic plan without subscription offers seven days of cloud storage for one camera unit.
A few months after they are launched in the U.S., Arlo Smart subscription plans are now available in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
In the UK, Arlo Smart costs £1.99 per month for one camera unit and 30 days of cloud storage; Arlo Smart Premier costs £6.49 per month for 10 camera units and 30 days of cloud storage; and Arlo Smart Elite costs £9.99 per month for 20 camera units and 60 days of cloud storage. The company offers similar plans in local currencies in Australia and New Zealand.
