What is new about smart video doorbells? An Indiegogo campaign for Arbor Video Doorbell claims to be offering an easy-to-install device for modern renters who want to have better home security.

The Arbor Video Doorbell, made by Arbor Home, can be installed in three minutes using two screws or a double-sided adhesive, says the crowdfunding campaign.

The product is fully wireless and is claimed to be able to operate for one year when the battery is fully charged. Therefore, homeowners aren’t required to work with the electrical boxes or buy additional transformers. The Arbor team highlights that the product is a good fit for home renters who don’t want to have complicated and permanent installation.

One of the screws is designed to be hidden under the battery compartment, so it won’t be seen by people who intend to steal the device. If someone really removes the battery or the entire unit by force, the device will trigger the alarm on the phone and in house via digital chime.

Another feature that makes the Arbor Video Doorbell stand out from other similar products is that it doesn’t require monthly service fees from users to store recording in the cloud.

After purchasing the device for US$199, users can access the recorded clips in the cloud for 48 hours without being charged. Smart doorbell makers including Ring and Nest ask for US$3 per month to access videos in the cloud.

Arbor Home has also designed a Wi-Fi booster, which provides for 700 feet of Internet connection. It makes sure that the doorbell will always connect to the cloud and can send security alerts to homeowners.

The Arbor Video Doorbell, of course, offers features commonly seen on similar products. It provides 160-degree motion detection with full HD 1080p recording. Homeowners can further customize the distance and direction at which the doorbell monitors.

If someone stands at the door and triggers the motion detector, the camera will automatically start recording and store the clips in the cloud.

The doorbell has a 110-decibel alarm system built-in. When homeowners receive an intruder notification, they can set the alarm off from their mobile app to scare intruders away.

The product also supports two-way audio with echo cancellation so homeowners can talk to visitors at the door from their smartphone.

For a one-time charge of US$199, users will receive the doorbell, a Wi-Fi hub to extend coverage for 700-feet, a digital chime and accessories for installation. The Arbor team said product shipment will start in late July.
