British smart home company Netatmo has added Alexa integration to its Smart Radiator Valve. The update allows users to adjust the temperature in various rooms individually by asking the voice assistant.
Smart thermostats from brands like Nest and Ecobee help homeowners adjust room temperatures to a preferable degree. However, temperature adjustments can only be made on a whole-house basis instead of room-by-room basis. It could result in energy waste since not every room is always occupied.
Netatmo’s Smart Radiator Valve connects to a homeowner’s radiators and enables them to alter the temperature only in the living room or a bedroom, with the control from a smartphone. Netatmo claims that this technology can save energy use by up to 37% on average when heating a home. Users can customize the temperature of each room in the house from a smartphone app.
With the new Alexa integration and voice control, adjusting home temperatures can be a lot easier. Users can say commands like “Alexa, set the bathroom temperature to 23 degrees,” or “Alexa, increase the living room temperature” to alter temperatures. They can also say “Alexa, what is the temperature in the baby’s room?” to check on the room environment.
The Netatmo Smart Radiator Valve is available for £69.99 each. In addition to Alexa, it already supports Google Home and Apple HomeKit.
Besides improving product capability, Netatmo is also expanding its market territory, by launching its smart home products in New Zealand recently.
The company is bringing three products to the new market first – outdoor security camera Presence, indoor security camera Welcome and local weather monitor Weather Station. With Netatmo’s entry, homeowners in New Zealand will have more product choices to make their home smart.
