Wyze, a security camera company founded by Amazon veterans, has introduced a new model that can scan all angles in a home at a price at US$30.
The Wyze Cam Pan is a pan and tilt security camera supporting 1080p Full HD recording with a total of 360-degree panning and 93-degree tilting. Its lens records a 120-degree field of view.
Two other features make the Wyze Cam Pan a better security camera. Firstly, it supports motion tracking. The camera will automatically track a moving object around the room as it detects motions. The moving object will be highlighted in both streaming and recorded clips, allowing users to more easily check what happened at home.
Secondly, it offers four custom waypoints for each camera. For example, if homeowners tag smoke alarm and CO alarm for waypoints, the camera will stop at each point for 10 seconds when scanning the environment. When motions and sounds are detected, users will receive alerts on their mobile app.
As for storage, homeowners can choose whether to store videos on a local microSD card or in the cloud. Wyze Labs offers 14-day cloud storage of alert-detection videos for free. Users also have the option to record in SD or HD quality.
Other features include two-way audio, night vision, time-lapse videos, 8x digital zoom-in and IFTTT integration.
The Wyze Cam Pan has a rectangular design and screw holes in the base for wall mounting. It connects to the network via Wi-Fi and powers itself via a micro-USB slot.
Wyze Labs debuted its first security camera in October 2017 and launched the improved version this February. Less than one year later, the Wyze Cam Pan is the third product launched by the company.
