LG Electronics, a South Korean consumer electronics company, has released its first energy storage system with solar panel technologies in the United States.

For those who already have solar panels at home, they can choose the AC-coupled 5.0 kW system; while others can go for DC-coupled 7.6 kW system with LG solar panels.

The company’s energy storage system features smart energy management, which stores excess energy from solar panels and uses it when the solar panels cannot produce enough power for home usage, like during the night.

During the period when most people are using energy, the utility rates are often the highest. With this energy management feature, homeowners may use the stored energy instead of paying utility during peak energy consumption hours.

According to LG, its energy storage system can store up to four hours of energy use. If homeowners pair the system with an expandable battery pack and solar panels, the power storage can be extended.

“Providing residential clients with the highest quality products and bringing added value to their homes are top priorities for LG Solar. Our new energy storage system align with LG’s leading solar solutions and allow homeowners to take more control of their energy usage with an extremely reliable and scalable system,” says Garry Wicka, head of marketing of LG Business Solutions, in a statement.

LG Solar, a subsidiary of LG Electronics USA Business Solutions division, will start to produce its U.S. solar module. The company didn’t say when it will launch the energy management system in the U.S.

Since the parent company LG also has several smart home appliances and a central control platform supporting voice control, the energy management system may present energy information on the LG smart home platform in the future.
