Moxa is pleased to announce the launch of the new VPort 06EC-2V series of surveillance cameras that meet the strict requirements for deployment on the exterior of trains. The desire to install surveillance cameras on the exterior of trains is becoming prevalent throughout the rail industry for two major reasons. The first is that cameras deployed on the exterior of trains help operators ensure that the doorways are clear, which is particularly important as this is the most likely place for accidents to occur. The second reason is that the cameras can help provide evidence when a problem occurs with the pantograph.

Rugged design for maximum reliability

Moxa’s VPort 06EC-2V Series is IP67-rated and has a -40 to 70°C operating temperature range to withstand the extreme weather conditions typically experienced on the exterior of trains. The advanced heater for the glass screen can remove snow and ice that builds up on the front of the camera and the 5H tempered glass can prevent scratches when hit by debris. In addition, the cameras are compliant with the mandatory sections of the EN 50155* standard. These features give the cameras the durability required for IP video surveillance on the exterior of trains.

Tailor-made design for greater flexibility

As the exterior designs of trains from different manufacturers may have slight differences and all projects have different specifications that need to be met, Moxa’s VPort 06EC-2V comes with a variety of different lenses as well as an adjustable pan and tilt feature to help create custom solutions to fit the requirements of any project deployment.

Optimal video technology to enhance image quality

As the lighting conditions on a train vary as it passes through a variety of different environments that may include tunnels, open air, and shade, the cameras installed on the train must maintain consistent image quality even when the lighting conditions fluctuate. Moxa’s VPort 06EC-2V Series supports 1080P HD resolution video at 60 FPS that is enhanced by Moxa’s iCapTrue imaging technology, which uses an advanced AE (Auto Exposure) and AWB (Auto White Balance) algorithm to ensure superior image quality and to capture every detail clearly, even in the challenging environments presented by exterior installations.

*This product is suitable for rolling stock applications as defined by the EN 50155 standard.
