Biometric technology has gained quite a bit of traction in the recent years, especially solutions like fingerprints and face recognition. But the recent years have seen a strong demand for iris recognition, according to Mohammed Murad, VP of Global Sales and Development at
Iris ID.
"In the last two years, we are starting to see a dramatic growth in iris recognition as people are starting to recognize it is the only non-contact accurate high throughput technology that they can utilize in some of the applications, specifically in Asia," Murad said. "So, in Asia, the demand for time and attendance because of the manufacturing sector is great for biometrics and that's where we are seeing our growth."
Speaking of his experience at Secutech 2017, he elaborated on the products his company is exhibiting at the show.
"We are demonstrating our entire portfolio of products that we offer in iris recognition solutions, in access control and time and attendance applications," Murad said. "Additionally, we are also demonstrating some of our components that go into other solutions like Kiosks for airlines etc. And we have a prototype for point of sales solution for self-service point of sale, where people can be enrolled into a system using their iris and then they can place orders on their self-service kiosks and be identified by the iris recognition solution."
The company is addressing the entire pan-Asia market. "Our goal is, we would like to be having these sorts of conferences and shows across Asia," he added. "We have seen customers in last day and a half from almost all countries in the Asian market. We saw people from Thailand yesterday, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, so it is covering the entire Asian market including China."
The company already has a strong presence in Asia in deployment and development of the technologies. It has a manufacturing and R&D plant in Korea. Among the countries here, China is their major customer.
