The number of home security cameras in the market is on the rise. Generally included in the smart home ecosystem, most of these cameras are meant to do the basic function of recording what’s in front of them.
Bringing a difference to this is Netatmo, with their new camera, Presence, which can detect objects in front of it.

Presence uses a deep-learning algorithm able to detect the presence of people, cars and animals, according to Netatmo. Unlike surveillance systems that need human analysis, Presence understands what’s happening outside the house and operates without requiring a subscription. The camera instantly detects unusual situations and sends precise notifications to the users’ smartphone.
“Presence offers peace of mind to the users: it alerts them in real time if break-ins or damage happens on their property,” Potter added.
The camera’s notifications and recordings are entirely customizable. The user decides whether or not to be notified or to record when Presence detects a person, a car or an animal. In other words, Presence alerts only when necessary.
It also features the
Alert-Zones function. The user can select specific zones for detection alerts. Presence sends detailed notifications when something happens in these user-defined areas.
Discreet watching and recording is made possible at night by Presence’s powerful infra-red night vision. It also has an integrated smart floodlight that can go off when it detects something, and allows to capture bright color videos even at night.
Presence records and stores full HD videos on an internal SD card and may automatically transfer the footage to a personal FTP server or a personal Dropbox account. Unlike many outdoor security cameras, this service doesn’t incur any subscription or fee. Its installation could be considered simple as it just replaces an existing outdoor light.
