Iveda, worldwide enabler of cloud-based video surveillance and data management through licensing its Sentir platform, today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) granted its technology the SAFETY Act Certification as a qualified anti-terrorism technology (QATT).

"The certification of our video surveillance technology by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, after extensive review, is a testament to the effectiveness, reliability, performance and overall quality of Iveda technology," said David Ly, Chairman and CEO of Iveda. "The Certification awarded in 2016 is a step above the SAFETY Act Designation awarded in 2009 that had afforded Iveda credibility with domestic and foreign customers. The Certification strengthens our image and position with our international telecom customers. This translates to quicker vetting process and technology validation."

Iveda has had the SAFETY Act Designation since 2009. The DHS renewed it in 2014; shortly after, they began the Certification process. Iveda had to consistently prove that the technology performed as designed during the 5-year Designation period for the Certification. For several months, the DHS conducted a rigorous due diligence process, which included interviewing Iveda's existing partners and customers to validate the technology.

The SAFETY Act provides important legal liability protections for providers of QATT, and for customers who use them. The goal of the SAFETY Act, which was passed by Congress as part of the Homeland Security SAFETY Act of 2002, is to encourage providers to develop and deploy new and innovative anti-terrorism products and services by providing risk mitigation and liability protections. The Certification limits the liability of Iveda's technology if it involves an act of terrorism (as defined by the SAFETY Act).

In addition to liability protections, the Certification provides Iveda a new Government Contractor Defense status that immunizes its partners and customers for claims brought under the SAFETY Act. Most importantly, it places Iveda's technology on the "Approved Products Lists for Homeland Security."
