UniSVR Global Information Technology, an industry-known software-oriented system company started as application service provider (ASP), introduces its latest smart home solution – UniPCC, suggested by the company as the first private cloud computer for home, and HermesDDS Service, a cloud device directory service – in a product announcement campaign held in Taipei today.

It is strongly recognized that the IoT industry shows a promising future in the years to come, as smart devices and access to the Internet have become crucial factors of the temporary society. According to Cisco's white paper published in 2011, somewhere between 2003 and 2010, the amount of connected devices has surpassed total population around the world; whereas, it is forecast that in 2020, the global population will reach 7.6 billion, and by then, per capital will hold 6.58 pieces of connected device in average.

Smart home is widely reckoned as another phrase to “home automation”; however, the market today has brought out demands way beyond automation and remote control, according to Michael Lee, Special Assistant to President at UniSVR. Added values such as customized and intelligent systems and management platform that can lead users to a more connected life style have become the core value of smart home market.

When it comes to smart home solution, there are numerous applications for the users, for example, security, light management, energy management, entertainment, HVAC just to name a few. According to a recent research, 2014 State of the Smart Home, by iControl Networks, there are 32% of the respondents in that survey showed high interests in more robust smart home solutions, including lawn irrigation, water leaking warning, and valve shutoff. 90% of the respondents believe that family security is one of the most prominent considerations when it comes to smart home systems deployment; meanwhile, 67% ranked family security as the top reason overall in the terms of using smart home devices, which is not too much a surprise.

Interestingly, more than 2/3 respondents indicated that indoor lighting and ceiling fan control is a desired feature; a respective 78% and 80 % said that energy management and HVAC and cooling management is one of the most important feature for reducing bills and environment friendly.

However, despite the bright future of smart home industry, there are too many individual smart device applications in the market at this moment, as Lee suggested. For the end users, it is not practical to conduct a connected life through dozens of applications. After all, smart home should be about intelligent connection making life convenient and easier. Therefore, a singular and integrated management platform is the key to the smart home market in the next decade.
