Representatives from Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics), A*STAR's Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) and Changi Airport Group (CAG) received the Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award 2013, presented by the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES), for the AgilFence Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS).

The prestigious accolade was presented in recognition of the high degree of engineering breakthrough and operation innovation introduced in AgilFence PIDS. This follows the successful commissioning of the solution at Changi Airport since 28 February 2013.The proprietary AgilFence PIDS with intelligent signal processing, was indigenously designed using patent pending Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) technology and unique intelligent adaptive signal processing algorithm. This is a world's first successful deployment of FBG-based PIDS for perimeter security enhancement.

“It is imperative that all efforts are taken to enhance the security of the Changi Airport airfield. We are pleased that the partnership with ST Electronics has borne fruit and that AgilFence PIDS has been commissioned successfully at Changi. Through the use of AgilFence PIDS, our security staff can now reliably detect, pinpoint and respond to any attempt of intrusion along the airport's perimeter. It is definitely a testament to the efforts of the teams involved, and the guidance from the regulatory agencies, that AgilFence PIDS has been granted such a prestigious honour from the IES.”
- TAN Lye Teck, Executive Vice President, Airport Management, CAG

ST Electronics firmly believes in innovation and invests substantially in R&D each year to generate new intellectual properties and breakthrough in engineering solutions and products to continuously add value to its customers and maintaining its lead in the industry.

“Over the years, we have successfully nurtured a culture of innovation in ST Electronics, to the extent that many of our engineers are constantly striving to come up with clever and novel solutions to engineering problems that are so daunting, or are so routine that we often accept them as given. This year, ST Electronics was conferred the IES Awards for three of our innovative system solutions;AgilFence PIDS, Smart Utilities Suite and Incident Management System. In the AgilFence solution,we are very happy to have I2R as our technology partner and CAG as the launch customer. Since then, the AgilFence has gone on to win the support of several other customers, and we are confident that it will eventually be installed in many more airports and critical infrastructure around the world.”
- LEE Fook Sun, President, ST Electronics

Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors have been widely used internationally primarily for structural health monitoring and have been applied in railway tracks, bridges, tunnels and buildings. Since its market introduction in 1995, the use of optical FBG in commercial products has grown exponentially, largely in the fields of telecommunications and stress sensors. The AgilFence PIDS is marketed by ST Electronics subsidiary, ST Electronics (Satcom & Sensor Systems) Pte Ltd.
