The University of Birmingham, one of the UK's leading educational establishments, has specified hardware such as door closers, door furniture, locks, lock cases and master key systems from Assa and Union – part of Assa Abloy Security Solutions.
As part of its continual improvement program, the university – which opened its doors to students for the first time in 1900 – has invested in the refurbishment of its modern apartments on Prittchat's Road, as well as its 105-bed Tennis Court development. As Assa Abloy is a preferred supplier to the University of Birmingham, Assa products and Union products have been fitted throughout the refurbished residences, providing access and security solutions for students.
Supplied through Powell Hardware, Union's electromagnetic and door closers, standard locks and door furniture from the 1000 Series, as well as Assa modular lock cases and 4800 series Master Key systems have been installed throughout the Tennis Court development.
"The master key suites from Assa and Union are an ideal means of controlling key management, and their patents provide protection against unauthorized key copying," says Ian Humphries, maintenance planning officer at University of Birmingham. "The electromagnetic door closers are integrated with the university's alarm system, delivering crucial fire safety, while the lever handles provide an attractive and reliable door furniture solution. Overall, the specification meets all of the university's requirements and is testament to Assa Abloy's experience and heritage within the education sector."
