Kettering University in Michigan is upgrading its existing CCTV system to Avigilon System's HD network video system, as part of its continuing commitment to safety on campus and surrounding neighborhood. Local installer Conti Corporation will install the system, designed to augment the existing analog system with a large number of HD and panoramic cameras. The cameras will be programmed to record and archive any motion in their field of view. Three Avigilon 21 terabyte enterprise recording servers will also be installed for 21 days of video retention.

"The new surveillance solution will provide full coverage of Kettering University's campus with HD cameras and software that leverages HD stream management  technology,” said Viola Sprague, VP of Instructional, Administrative and Information Technology for Kettering University. “Images will be displayed on a video wall to show the campus activity and ensure the campus is safe.”

The university received a US$125,000 donation from LEAR, an automotive seating and electrical power management systems supplier to fund the security upgrade. The donation supports the technology component of a comprehensive US$330,000 campus safety initiative that includes renovation of the campus center's safety station, increased security enforcement and utilization of the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design model of security.

The donation will also fund the installation of the three Avigilon recording servers, three redundant, hot swappable, server power supplies, an HD 4-monitor and two HD 2-monitor workstations, wall-mounted security monitors and system programming, start-up and testing. “Lear's financial investment in Kettering makes it possible for us to implement the perfect system now, without compromise,” said Robert McMahan, President of Kettering University.
