Mission
China FAW R&D Center, Changchun Automobile Research Institute, is a core research and development institute under FAW Group Corporation (FAW Automobile Research). It consists of 20 departments located in various cities and is responsible for the independent research and development of the fully-assembled commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle products, as well as their individual spare parts. Tight security is required due to the huge number of departments at FAW Automobile Research. There was a need for 24-hour continual surveillance and recording of staff and visitors entering and leaving the premises and at their daily work activities.
24-hour continual surveillance needed
FAW Automobile Research is the longest established and largest automotive product development and test detection base, and has the highest level of professionalism and the most abundant human resources in China's automotive industry. It possesses self-development capabilities for a full range of vehicle products ranging from medium and heavy-duty, light, mini, sedan, passenger and military vehicles to new energy vehicles, etc.
Tight security is required due to the huge number of departments at FAW Automobile Research. There was a need for 24-hour continual surveillance and recording of staff and visitors entering and leaving the premises and at their daily work activities. Recognizing these needs, Axis Communications and its partner, Beijing CS Vision Technology, designed a network video monitoring system that comprises four major components, namely, advanced high definition network video cameras, secure private network, display controller, and video services and storage.
Solution
The entire system has a distribution design and a centralized monitoring and storage structure. The type of advanced high definition network camera used is the Axis HDTV 720p high definition network camera. Axis P5534, Axis P1344 and Axis P3344 network cameras are set up at the 130 monitoring points to ensure continuous realtime recording of the environment. The back-end support for monitoring management is configured at the monitoring center of the research institute.
Using the CS Vision CSV-CMS4 network video surveillance system, digital video signals from the 130 frontend network video cameras are centrally managed together with the back-end storage function, video forwarding function, and the video display equipment. This enables 24-hour full frame rate storage and realtime video display of HDTV 720p high definition digital videos.
The entire system adopts a modular system of management and is compatible with the existing monitoring system. These two systems, together with the electronic map module, real-time monitoring module, media service module, device detection module and alarm module, make up the infrastructure, which is able to meet all kinds of monitoring requirements of the user.
The system offers the convenience of a unified and efficient modernized management that greatly raises productivity, and ensures continuous real-time recording of activities in the research center.
Foundation for expansion
After the implementation of the project, the monitoring center at FAW Automobile Research can check on the operations of the unit at any time, especially on key hazardous areas. The system greatly reduces the response time to carry out verification and troubleshooting work at the hazardous areas and fully satisfies the expected requirements of China FAW R&D Center. As a result, the entire system not only enables end-to-end high definition management but also lays a good foundation for subsequent system expansion through the development of a system with good compatibility and expandable software interface.
