One of the most remote, as well prestigious hotels, within the Sheraton Hotels & Resorts group has invested in SANYO Full HD cameras to create a safe environment for its guests whilst deterring and detecting potential thieves.

The Sheraton Hotel Santa María de El Paular, located northwest of Madrid, is part of the 15th-century monastery it is named after. Surrounded by rolling green countryside this highly popular hotel is in an area which attracts many thousands of tourists every year.

The hotel's existing CCTV system had become outdated in that the analogue cameras were not capable of delivering the quality of images required by the hotel's security management, to allow them to identify thieves as well as being able to read car number plates in order that the arrival and departure of cars could be logged.

IP network system specialists, Gesico, were asked to recommend and install new cameras which could meet the demanding requirements of the hotel. In addition to delivering very high resolution images, an important requirement was for the cameras to be able to perform in harsh and varied weather conditions as the hotel is in an area which experiences both very hot and cold conditions.

Gesico installed six SANYO Full HD cameras as replacements for most of the existing analogue cameras.

The vandal-resistant Full HD camera has the capability to capture 1920 x 1080 colour images at 25 frames per second and is equipped with a Dual Codec to support both the latest H.264 compression standard, as well as MJPEG. Using technology developed by SANYO's miniaturization expertise, the cameras are 40 persent smaller than conventional CCTV cameras.

Conrado Montalvo, Technical Director for Gesico said: “The hotel takes the safety of its guests very seriously but in any event, with the introduction of new legislation in Spain, it was important that the system was upgraded. We tested a large number of cameras from different manufacturers but were very impressed by the Full HD cameras from SANYO. Being able to use the cameras to zoom in and identify number plates was especially important for our clients, along with the clarity of the images. Both these objectives are being achieved with the SANYO cameras even in low light conditions. Some of the analogue cameras remain installed but this will be replaced in the next phase of the CCTV system upgrade with more of the SANYO cameras.”
