Southampton Solent University selected TDS' student attendance solution following a tendering process.
Southampton Solent University is one of the UK's newest universities and officially became a university in July 2005 adopting its current name in August 2005. Southampton Solent University has more than 16,000 students and 1,500 international students from more than 70 countries.
A key requirement for Southampton Solent University was the use of Mifare technology which enables multiple applications to be stored on the same card such as cashless catering and access control, providing a single-card approach for the university's students and staff once the anticipated solutions are rolled out.
TDS implemented their fixed PoE readers and handheld barcode scanners to record and monitor student attendance in the university. TDS' student attendance solution reduces the administration duties and automates the process.
The solution will interface with the university's existing timetable and student records system. This interface will enable the PoE mobile devices to know which students/lecturer to expect for which lecture at a particular classroom at a particular time.
